Cotton VS Linen. The differences between Cotton and Linen. Cotton is soft, comfortable, flexible and versatile, while Linen is light, luxurious, durable and breathable.

Linen and cotton are two of the most popular fabrics, both for clothing and home decor items. However, there are many characteristics that distinguish them.

First of all, it’s important to refer that cotton is considered a natural and very comfortable fabric, while linen is considered a more luxurious fabric.

Linen is a lightweight, luxurious and durable fabric that comes from a plant known as flax. Linen fibers are naturally stronger than cotton and, in fact, the fabric is so durable that linen tablecloths and napkins will last for generations. In addition, natural linen fabric is available in some colors such as cream and brown, although it can be easily dyed in many colors that do not fade even after washing many times. On the other hand, cotton comes from the cotton plant and everyone knows the versatility of this wonderful fabric, since ancient civilizations.

Due to its primary origin, cotton is suitable for all skin types and is used in all parts of the world. Like linen, cotton can also be used for home textiles such as upholstery and curtains. The versatility of cotton resides in the fact that it can be dyed in many colors and used to make other fabrics, such as corduroy, muslin and flannel.

Regarding the differences that distinguish these two types of fabric, we can say that:

  • Linen is less flexible than cotton;
  • Cotton has a softer feel than linen;
  • Linen is more durable than cotton;
  • Cotton is less breathable than linen;
  • Linen has more hypoallergenic properties than cotton.

Therefore, which one is your favorite fabric? If you want our opinion, cotton and linen can live together in your wardrobe! You should have clothes made of cotton for the cooler seasons and clothes made of linen for the warmer days of the year.
